  • Plus much more!

General Questions

Most households require electricity, gas, water, and internet/TV/phone services. In some areas, central gas is not available, and gas cylinders are used instead. Some properties don’t use gas anymore.

It is highly recommended. Many providers send confirmation codes (tokens) via SMS to approve contract changes. You can use a basic mobile plan as long as it can receive text messages.

Typically, you will need:

  • A valid identification document (Passport or Portuguese ID card)
  • NIF (Portuguese Tax Identification Number)
  • Rental contract or property deed
  • Current meter readings (for electricity, gas, and water)
  • IBAN (for direct debit payments, if applicable)

Not always, but in some cases, yes. For example:

  • Electricity and gas: If the service is already active, no one usually needs to be present. However, if reconnection is needed, a technician may require access to the meters, and someone must be present at the property.
  • Gas inspections: These always require access to the property, and someone must be there to let the technician in.
  • Internet and TV installation: A technician will need to enter the property, so someone must be present on the scheduled day.

Since you have contracted our service, you don’t need to worry — we will be present to handle these appointments for you.

Yes, in most cases you can. Utility providers usually offer several payment methods that can be used internationally, such as:

  • Multibanco references (can be paid also using some international banking apps that support Portuguese payments)
  • Credit card (limited providers)
  • Direct debit (SEPA)

However, please note that direct debit is only available from SEPA-compatible bank accounts. While some international banks work, we strongly recommend opening a Portuguese bank account, as it ensures smoother setup and payment processing, especially for recurring bills like electricity, gas, and water.

If you haven’t opened a Portuguese bank account yet, our team can assist you with the process.

Electricity

You can contact an electricity provider online, by phone, or in person. The transfer process usually takes 48 hours if the service is already active.

  • EDP Comercial
  • Endesa
  • Iberdrola
  • Goldenergy
  • Galp Energia
  • Meo Energia

  • If the service is already active: 48 hours for ownership transfer.
  • If the service has been disconnected: 3 to 5 business days for reconnection.

  • Ownership transfer: Usually free.
  • Reconnection after disconnection: €30 to €50, depending on the provider.

  • After 30 days, you may receive a disconnection warning.
  • After 60 days, the service may be suspended, and a reconnection fee will apply.

Yes, some providers offer off-peak rates for electricity, which may help reduce costs depending on your consumption habits.

If you believe your meter reading is incorrect, you can submit your own reading to the provider or request an inspection.

Gas

Gas contracts can be transferred online, by phone, or in person. You will need the same documents as for electricity.

  • Galp Energia
  • EDP Gás
  • Goldenergy
  • Endesa
  • Iberdrola
  • Digal

If you are changing the name of the contract and the landlord doesn’t have a valid gas inspection (valid for 5 years), a mandatory safety inspection is required before reactivation and is usually paid by the tenant.

  • The cost ranges between €60 and €100.
  • It must be conducted by a certified technician.

  • If the service is already active: 48 hours for ownership transfer.
  • If the gas is disconnected: 5 to 10 business days, as an inspection may be required.

  • Ownership transfer: Usually free.
  • Reconnection after disconnection: €30 to €50.
  • Mandatory inspection: €60 to €100 (if applicable).

Water

Water services are provided by local municipal companies. You need to contact the local provider for your area.

  • If the service is active: Transfer takes 1 to 3 business days.
  • If disconnected: Reactivation may take up to 7 business days.

  • Ownership transfer: Usually free.
  • Reconnection after disconnection: Fees vary depending on the municipality.

Some municipalities impose a minimum monthly charge, even if no water is used.

Internet, TV, and Mobile Phone

  • MEO
  • NOS
  • Vodafone
  • NOWO

  • If fiber is already installed: 3 to 5 business days.
  • If fiber needs to be installed: Up to 15 business days.

Packages usually range between €30 and €80 per month, depending on speed and channels.

Most contracts require a 24-month commitment, but some providers offer no-commitment options at a higher cost.

Most plans include EU roaming, but international roaming may require an additional package.

Early termination fees may apply unless you choose a no-commitment plan.
